  1. Truly fascinating. The human drive to learn is amazing to see in action. It saddens me to see it dampened and hampered in the world of American education today. We’ve got lots of grand plans, but how can our education system nurture both a practical knowledge that would help kids become productive members of society (regardless of IQ and natural ability) and bring to life that magical spark of wonder shown in this TEDtalk.

  2. Great video! We see this type of thing a lot in our schools. We have over 14% of our students speaking English as a second language and over 24 different languages- yes in BG, KY. But kids are like sponges soaking up information, wanting to learn more. Seeing this first-hand is incredible and one of the reasons I love my job!

In our schools, we talk a lot about making learning engaging and interesting to the students, as well as making sure we are not limiting them in any way. We are preparing kids for THEIR future, not our past. Jobs and technology that will be necessary for today’s students have not even been thought of yet.

I think it is SO important to make sure every student finds his or her passion and talents- regardless of where they are from, what language they speak, or the color of their skin. Every child can grow up to be a productive member of society, but adults and a narrow-minded environments cannot hold them back.
